Weekly Bulletin: 10th May 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Tonight we are holding our annual BTEC Photography Exhibition ‘Capture’. Students have worked incredibly hard throughout the year and the exhibition is of the highest professional standard. If you would like to come and view the many talents of our students, please come to N206 in the Sixth Form Building. The exhibition will be available from 6:30–8:00pm.

Year 7 Parents Evening will take place on Thursday this week, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Students should already be making appointments with teachers and recording this on the appropriate page of their school planner. Please be aware that some teachers have many Year 7 classes and will have to prioritise which parents they are able to see on the night. Telephone conversations will be available with any teacher you cannot see, by request.

Year 11 parents should already have received a text message about revision sessions; if not, please click here for details.

Congratulations go to the Year 9 football team, who last week won the league with a 4-0 victory at Great Sankey. This rounded off an exceptional season in which the boys scored 40 goals whilst conceding only 9 all season and, most importantly, conducted themselves throughout in a manner deserving of great credit. There will be a DVD available to celebrate some of the highlights. Particular thanks must also go to Mr Powell for all his hard work.

Congratulations also go to Lucy Glover who was selected to row for GB Rowing Team at the Munich International Junior Regatta last weekend. Munich is a large-scale regatta attracting a wide range of high-performing club and country crews. This event is customarily used by GB Rowing Team to race a very select number of athletes at the top of the pyramid in the current year’s junior trial process. Lucy’s crew won bronze – a terrific achievement for a newly formed crew with eyes set on the World Championship title in July!

If you missed my response to the recent Parent Forum meeting (focus on home-school communication) you can find it here.

The PTA are delighted to have been donated a pair of tickets for the Stone Roses concert on 15th June at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The event has long been sold out and the tickets have even been signed by vocalist Ian Brown. The PTA are holding a raffle, with the winner taking both tickets. If you are interested, raffle tickets can be bought from the school shop and cost £2 each.

Finally, we once again wish all students and families the very best of luck with the forthcoming GCSE and A’level exams, the first of which are taking place this year. As a school we will be doing all we can to support students involved and I know that you all will be doing the same.
