Weekly Bulletin: 17th May 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all our Year 7 Parents who attended the Parents Evening on Thursday last week. We had excellent attendance of 91% – which is fantastic. It is great to see and hear how well our Year 7 students have settled in and lovely to hear so much positive feedback from parents during the evening.

I would like to inform you about some changes we are making to the structure of the school day from September. You can read the changes in the letter linked here.

A much overdue congratulations must go to our Year 8 footballers who won the Warrington League recently; finishing first after only losing one game all season. In an incredible performance, they defeated St Gregory’s 7-1 in the final. This has followed a superb National Cup run, which saw the Year 8 team reach the last 16 in the country. Many thanks go to Mr Wilde and Mr Riddell for all their hard work with the team, as well as congratulations to the boys for the exemplary way they have conducted themselves throughout the season.

We would like to invite all parents to an e-safety presentation delivered by our Police School Liasion Officer, PC Jeff Mather next Wednesday from 6.30-8pm. As you will know, e-safety is such an important issue these days and it can be very difficult for adults to keep up with the latest developments; this session is aimed at ensuring parents understand the issues and know how to help keep their children safe online. If you are intending on coming along, please let Ann Mogey know on 01925 750711 or amogey@lymmhigh.org.uk so that we can ensure there are sufficient refreshments. (If you are a Year 7 parent and have already completed a reply slip about this, there is no need to let Mrs Mogey know again)

The ‘Bin-it!’ Company will be coming in to school on Thursday this week, to promote the issue of littering to our year 7 students. They will be presenting a 45-minute interactive session to encourage our students to look after the school and the local environment. This supports the schools ethos of developing students to become well-rounded, socially responsible citizens.

Congratulations to Gwen Tavernier (Year 8), and Joe Lambert (year 7), who were our first winners in our new hall points reward scheme. Gwen and Joe both won a £50 Amazon voucher in the first of 9 weekly draws.

On Tuesday 10th May, Lymm High School hosted the annual BTEC Photography Exhibition ‘Capture.’ Students worked incredibly hard throughout the year and the exhibition was of the highest professional standards.

The RHS Campaign for School Gardening has partnered with the UK Space Agency to embark on an ‘out of this world’ educational project and Lymm High School is taking part! Click here to read about how our Year 7 Scholars students are getting involved!

Friday night saw Lymm rugby club host the first, for a number of years, Lymm High School old boys game suitably dubbed ‘Battle of the Ages’. With superb weather and an excellent surface to play on, the game had been eagerly anticipated by all involved. Was the size and strength of the over 20s going to win over the speed and fitness of the under 20s? Click here to read the full report from Mr Pickles.

We are delighted to launch a small selection of Adult Courses available to parents and members of the Lymm Community. The courses available include: Sewing, Knitting, Baking and Spanish for Beginners. Each course is a six-week program and are scheduled to begin next week – please click here to see our flyer. If you are interested in registering on one of our courses please contact Miss Tina McGuffie on tmcguffie@lymmhigh.org.uk. Also feel free to share this opportunity with any family or friends you think would be interested.

The PTA have been donated a pair of tickets for the Stone Roses concert on Wednesday 15th June at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The event has long been sold out and the tickets have even been signed by vocalist Ian Brown. If you are interested, raffle tickets can be bought from the school shop and cost £2 each.
