Weekly Bulletin: 23rd May 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week was another very busy week and this one promises to be the same – indeed, there is so much going on here that I sometimes struggle to keep track of it all!

We are pleased to announce that Ellena Hudson, Year 12, has been successful in securing a place on the Young Artists in Tuscany tour this summer. This is an extremely prestigious trip in which many students across Cheshire apply for and is nationally recognised by many universities and art colleges. This is a huge achievement for Ellena and we congratulate her on this accomplishment.

Congratulations to the junior boys athletics squad who have got through to the regional final in the ESAA cup. The final will take place on Monday 13th June at Victoria Park, Warrington. We wish them the very best of luck in the final.

On Tuesday this week, the Under 20s World Cup trophy will come to Lymm High School. The trophy will be stationed on the fields and will be brought in by world cup officials. The morning will see a festival of rugby – with Year 7 and 8 students taking part in a variety of rugby competitions as well as having the opportunity to take the obligatory photo with the trophy! This is set to be a fantastic day and Sale Sharks will also be in school to help run the event.

Year 12 A level Theatre Studies performances took place on Tuesday 17th May. The exam asks students to perform two pieces: a monologue or duologue, and a substantial directed performance piece. The large-scale piece was a play called ‘The Grandfathers,’ written by Rory Mullarkey. The play explores modern soldiering and warfare. The students were absolutely superb, giving performances of a high professional standard. Their work ethic and commitment to the performing arts is exemplary. Many of the students were also involved in the National Connections performance of ‘It Snows’ at The Lowry on Sunday 15th May. Their ability to switch from project to project in such a short amount of time shows just how brilliant they are.

The ‘Bin-it!’ Company came into school on Thursday last week. Our Year 7s enjoyed a 45-minute interactive session aimed at encouraging our students to look after the school and the local environment. Thank you to Mrs Morris for organising the event.

One of our talented Year 11 students, Matthew Baguley, has created a promotional video promoting Warrington Rowing Club – a club with strong links to our school. If your child is interested in getting involved, we have a lunchtime club each Monday in the gym, supervised by Mr Hadland and lead by our fantastic Year 11 and 12 Rowers. They will also be able to give you more information about joining Warrington Rowing Club. You can take a look at Matthews video using the following link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IQHVRmMuPRI

If you are interested in winning a pair of signed tickets for the Stone Roses concert on Wednesday 15th June at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, raffle tickets can be bought from the school shop and cost £2 each. The draw will be held towards the end of this week.

The Performing Arts Faculty is participating in the Great North Swim on Sunday 12th June for Cancer Research. Their goal is to raise £2000 – If you would like to sponsor them and help them raise money for this fantastic cause, visit their justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/lymmhighperformingarts

Finally, and importantly, Directors of Learning will be leading assemblies this week on the standards of behavior we expect of Lymm High School students and one of the issues they will be addressing is that of the use of racist or homophobic language. I know I can count on your support in reinforcing the message that such language is never acceptable in any context and regardless of what students might see or hear on social media or elsewhere. We would appreciate it if you could have a word with your children to make sure that they understand the importance of such a message.
