Weekly Bulletin: 27th June 2016

Dear parents and carers,

The last few public examinations are taking place this week and, whilst the time feels to me as if it’s flown by, I have no doubt it hasn’t felt quite the same for many of the students! I would like to thank them all for conducting themselves so well throughout the exam season; it can be a stressful time, but they have been fabulous and we look forward to a successful summer of results.

We continue this week with the Year 7 trips to Ty’n-y-Felin as Moreton Hall head out today. I hope that the students have a fantastic time and we have our fingers crossed that they are as lucky with the weather as the groups that went last week were.

Thank you to all those who supported the Lymm Live event on Saturday. There were some excellent performances and a lovely atmosphere. I know my family and I enjoyed ourselves and it seemed as if everybody else did too.

To celebrate our students’ hard work and talent, the Visual Arts Department are holding the End of Year Show on Tuesday 28th June at 6-8pm in the Lower Hexagon, with the Year 13 Fashion Show running in the Main Hall at 7pm. We will be showcasing all of our wonderful KS4 and KS5 Fine Art, Fashion and Photography work for students, parents and staff to enjoy! Please do come along to what will be a lovely evening.

Congratulations to Amy Nelson in Year 7, who was one of five students across the UK to have her story ‘Monster Fear’, selected to be published as part of the Young Writers Spine-Chillers Saga Competition. Well done Amy on this massive achievement!

Over the last couple of weeks we have been collating information in order to update the school’s sporting honors boards. Students who have represented the county or equivalent in their sport have been asked to inform Mr. Hampton, Head of PE and Sport, to ensure he has the correct details. Please can you ensure that your son or daughter has been to see Mr. Hampton to ensure that their achievements are properly recognised. We have so many wonderful young people in the school involved in so many different activities that it can be difficult to keep tabs on everything, so we do rely on students and parents keeping us informed; thank you for your support.

Following on from this, congratulations go to Daniel Farini, in Year 9, who has been selected to compete as part of the North West Regional Water Polo Squad in the under-15s inter-regional competition in July. We wish him and his team the best of luck in the upcoming competition.

Similarly, congratulations to Hattie Cosgrove, Lauren Ferris, Josef Murphy who have all been selected to represent Cheshire in athletics. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming competitions.

The Oxford Student Road trip visited Lymm High School on Wednesday 22nd June and students from Year 10 and 12 were able to benefit from the advice the under graduates offered about applying and studying at Oxford University. Click here to read more.

Looking a little further ahead, Founders Day is approaching and this is an important event in the school calendar. Having had such success with the launch of the 5K Sponsored Walk last year, we wish to continue to build on this in order to celebrate our school’s history and community links. Please click here to read a letter, which will be sent home with students today.

The schools’ Afritwin group have linked up with Professor Ralph Mackinnon from the Manchester Royal Children’s Hospital in a scheme to raise awareness and skills in CPR. (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). Please click here for more details.

Please click here for a letter from Warrington Borough Council in response to the recent court case relating to term-time holidays.

Finally, I have had my arm twisted and have agreed to a non-uniform day on Friday 8th July in support of the Performing Arts team’s efforts to raise money for Cancer Research. We are asking students to bring in £1 for the privilege of wearing their own clothes in aid of this good cause. https://www.justgiving.com/lymmhighperformingarts
