Weekly Bulletin: 11th July 2016

Dear parents and carers,

Terrifyingly, this is the last full week of the school year and, as such, it is a time for reflection. Last summer, I published a three year School Improvement Plan following extensive consultation with students, staff and parents; this has been on the website all year. I have now added a review against each area of the Plan, which you can read here (the review comments are in red font). It may take a few minutes to read, but I encourage you to set aside some time to do so. We have had a really successful year and there can be no question that the school is improving rapidly. It was nice to see that the editor of Lymm Life referred recently to a “feel good factor” returning to the school and that seems to sum things up very well. I will always try hard to avoid the trap of over-stating how well things are going, but I will say that I could not be more pleased with the progress made this year. We are very heavily over-subscribed for September, staff morale is good and the foundations are now in place to really push forward. Thank you all very much indeed for your continued support.

I would like to draw your attention to a letter I have prepared about expectations as regards uniform for next year. The purpose of writing at this particular time is so that those of you buying new items of uniform over the summer can ensure students are properly dressed for the new school year. Please click here to read the letter. Again, I thank you for your support.

Sports day has been rescheduled in order to accommodate our Year 7 Arley students to be able to go to Ty’n-y-Felin this week. Sports day will now take place next week on Tuesday 19 July. You can find more information about sports day by clicking here. We wish the Arley students all the best at Tynny.

We have our annual Awards Evening taking place on Thursday this week. Can I ask that any parents who have not sent their RVSP to please do so as soon as possible by email to info@lymmhigh.org.uk, or by calling reception on 01925 755458. Please leave the name of recipient and numbers of guests in attendance. Due to the numbers we can only allow a maximum of 2 guests to attend the evening in addition to the recipient. Recipients must attend in correct school uniform and be in attendance by 6.30pm at the latest. They should report to staff in the Atrium area to register their attendance before taking up their seats in the Main Hall. Guests will be required to produce their ticket in the reception area before proceeding into the Hall. The presentations will begin promptly at 7.00pm.

Congratulations to the Merseyside STEM Robotics challenge day winners: Grace Cooke and Gwen Tavernier and to the Merseyside STEM Medical challenge day winners: Jessica Ward and Hannah Maudsley-Barton. As part of Lymm’s scholar programme, the girls attended Liverpool John Moores University on Wednesday 6th July to take part in an annual Science Technology Engineering and Maths challenge day against students from seven other schools. We are really proud to say that Grace and Gwen from Year 8 came in first place in the Robotics challenge based on their teamwork and programming skills. They programmed an autonomous robot to complete a task set by the organisers and outscored over 90 other students. This was made even more impressive by some of the other challengers being in Year 9. We are equally proud of Jessica and Hannah, also from Year 8, who came in first place in the Medical challenge based on their teamwork and diagnostic skills. The girls diagnosed a patient based on symptoms described to them by a junior doctor and also outscored over 90 other students. Again, this was made even more impressive by some of the other challengers being in Year 9.

Founders Day is approaching and this is an important event in the school calendar. Having had such success with the launch of the 5K Sponsored Walk last year, we wish to continue to build on this in order to celebrate our school’s history and community links. Please click here to read a letter with more information.

Well done to all of our students who participated in the Non-Uniform Day on Friday and raised a fantastic £1142.02 for Cancer Research.

We would like to inform parents and students that the ILC will be closed from Monday 18th July to Wednesday 20th July. This is to allow for stock checking and will include lesson times, break, lunch and before and after school sessions.

Finally, the PTA Annual General Meeting will be held tonight at 7pm in the Music Room, Leisure Centre. All parents are welcome to attend.
