KS3 Assessments in English, Maths and Science

Students will take tests in English, maths and science after we return from the Christmas holidays, with tests taking place over the first two to three weeks. Your son/daughter will shortly be receiving a timetable.  The assessments will be taken in formal exam conditions and will assess students on what they have learnt so far at Lymm.

Students should begin to revise. Although these exams are ‘lower stakes’ than the  externally marked papers they will take at the end of Key Stage 4 and 5 and we do not want to cause  undue stress, we are encouraging our students to take them seriously and prepare through revision. At Lymm we believe that revision is important for many reasons: it helps students consolidate their learning; builds confidence; enables students to practise revision skills for public examinations further up the school; gets students used to sitting extended exams; and allows teachers to build a clearer picture of progress (without proper revision, it is less clear whether students have merely forgotten something or didn’t understand it in the first place). Please see the school website for further details: exams information is given under ‘Curriculum’ on the website. You will find information on what to revise and how to support your sons and daughters here.

Results from these assessments will be reported as a percentage, giving the comparison to the average and top ten percentage score. In this way you will be able to compare your son or daughter’s performance with others in the year group.

I hope you will find the materials on the website helpful. If you have a specific subject query please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s subject teacher.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas holiday.

Best wishes,

Jayne O’Grady
