Important Dates

Dear Parents/Carers

We are just over a week into our second half term and I trust that your children had a well deserved rest over the half term holiday.  We have hit the ground running and lessons are in full swing, with the nights getting darker and the weather getting colder and much wetter this half term can be a tough one for the students, please remember we are here to support you and your child.  If you have any worries at all please phone or email either myself or Mr Gallagher.

All students should now have their Knowledge Organiser to support their learning, students should bringing their Knowledge Organiser into school with them each day, over the next few weeks in form students will be shown how to use them effectively to revise.  In form this morning I saw some excellent use of revision book and cue cards to support learning.  The knowledge Organisers can also be at home for revision and support with homework tasks.  If your child has not yet been given theirs please let me know and I will get one out to them.  As parents it would be great if you could have a look through their Knowledge Organiser as it will give you an idea of what they are doing in school at the moment in each of their subjects, If you have a few minutes you could support the students by helping them revise by quizzing them on certain topics that they are covering.

There are still a number of students that are getting behaviour points for completing their homework or not bringing their homework into school.  Can you check that your child has access to the Show my Homework app and they are using it at home to support the completing of homework.  As a parent you also have access to the app with a parent log in, if you or your child need your log in again them please contact me and I will get this out to you.

There are a couple of important dates coming up that you need to be aware of:

Wednesday 13th November 6:30pm Main Hall – Risky Behaviour, Parent Guidance Evening – During this evening you will be able to access the most up-to-date information and strategies – helping to reduce problems related to risk -taking behaviours.

Thursday 5th December – Y7 Parents Evening –  Sports Hall and Dance Studio – Parents evening at High School is very different to primary school as you have so many more teachers to see.   Appointments will be made by the students with their teachers during their lessons, form teachers will be going through this with the students so they know how to do this.  All students will be give an appointment card which will be kept in the back of their knowledge organiser folder, please have a look at this and prompt your children to make any appointments that you require.  Some staff will teach a number of Y7 classes and you may not be able to book an appointment with them, if this happens and you would like to speak to that teacher then please contact them directly via email or phone.  As much as staff try and keep to appointment times it is inevitable that it will not always run to time, please do not worry about this.  If you are struggling to see a member of staff you can see them later in the evening if they are free or contact them directly after the parents evening.   With this in mind please be aware that the appointment times are only 5 minutes long if you have a concern that you need to discuss in more detail then a follow up phone call or appointment may be necessary.

In the next week reports will be coming home please go through this with your child to see what progress they are making and if there are any causes for concerns.  If you have any questions about a subject on your child’s report then please contact their teacher in the first instance.

If you have any questions about any of the information above then please do not hesitate to contact me
