Head of English Faculty
Miss N Tomkins
English is an inspiring, dynamic and stimulating subject! At Lymm High School, the English Faculty is a lively and innovative place to learn about English Literature and English Language. Our experienced team of teachers enthusiastically communicate a love of reading, of the written word and of the power of language to inspire, persuade, entertain, provoke and inform.
Our aim is for our pupils to enjoy and appreciate the subject, whilst enabling all to communicate their ideas successfully. We explore a diverse selection of literature, from the more recent phenomenon that is ‘The Hunger Games’ to classics such as ‘Wuthering Heights’. It is important that our pupils become life-long learners, acquiring a genuine love of reading and becoming fluent writers so as to achieve success academically and beyond.
We want learning to be a challenging experience for our pupils and we have a commitment to excellence and extension, enabling all to fulfil their potential. We encourage our pupils to think critically thereby enabling them to participate more effectively in society. We want them to respond to, and challenge, what they hear and read. In doing so, we hope they will form their own views and be able to think reflectively.
