KS3 Mathematics

Overview

Year 7 and 8 students follow schemes of learning based around the revised national curriculum.  Activities that promote mathematical thinking and opportunities for developing problem solving skills have been built in to the schemes.  Year 7 are initially taught in tutor groups and are then set within the first half term based on their end of KS2 assessments and baseline assessments that take place within the first few weeks at Lymm.

Homework

Homework is set in line with school policy. It can consist of both written and online tasks, in the form of MyMaths and Mathswatch.

Other Useful Information

MyMaths – Maths based website that all learners have access to via their own personal login and password.

United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) – Charity which runs the Junior and Intermediate challenges, available to our high ability learners. In addition to this, they also organise the team maths challenge.

BBC Bitesize – Website that specialises in revision for KS3 and GCSE examinations.

NRICH – Website that specialises in open-ended mathematical tasks. Designed to stretch our most able learners.

5 ways I can help my son/daughter

1

Times tables and number bonds.

2

Basic algebra.

3

Encourage learners to use MyMaths/Mathswatch.

4

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages.

5

Check to ensure homework is complete.
