Year 12

New for September 2016 AS Product Design

The AQA qualification is split into 4 basic sections over the two years.

Coursework
Starting in September and ending in March students are expected to complete a portfolio of design work to accompany a final project piece.

The coursework knowledge is split into 3 sections;-

  • Design and Market Influence
  • Material, Components and Applications
  • Manufacturing and Fabrication
  • Exam (20%) After completion of the coursework, the focus will switch to the exam which will take place in June. The exam will be based upon theory learnt over the course of the year.

AS Graphic Design

The Edexcel qualification is split into 4 basic sections over the two years.

Coursework (Worth 30% of the final A level)
Starting in September and ending in March students are expected to complete a portfolio of design work to accompany a final project piece.

The coursework is split into 3 sections;-

  • Product Investigation
  • Product Design
  • Product Manufacture
  • Exam (20%) After completion of the coursework, the focus will switch to the exam which will take place in June. The exam will be based upon theory learnt over the course of the year.

Year 13

A2 Graphic Design

Coursework (Worth 30% of the final A level)
Starting in September and ending in March students are expected to complete a portfolio of design work to accompany a final project piece of their choice.

Exam (20%)
After completion of the coursework, the focus will switch to the exam which will take place in June. The exam will be based upon theory learnt over the course of the year. The Excel Product Design Book covers all the theory required.

A2 Systems

Coursework (25% – worth of final grade)

In Year 12, students are expected to produce a portfolio of design work to accompany a final product on a given theme. Students will work on this in class time with additional work set as home learning. The coursework section runs from September to March, work is expected to be more in depth and focused.

Exam (25%)
The exam, for the remaining 25% of year two, will take place in June and will consistent of writing in depth answers to a series of set questions.

Homework: Students will be set weekly homework tasks. These tasks will support classroom learning and will be formatively assessed with targets given for improvement. Students will be expected to respond to the targets given. Student will need to complete weekly exam questions. We expect student to complete self-directed study and manage their own resource file.
