Overview
History is all around us. The study of history ignites children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world. Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present. History enables children to develop a context for their growing sense of identity and a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people. What they learn through history can influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values and can widen their respect and appreciation of diversity and other cultures and beliefs.
The History Department at Lymm High School aims to stimulate students’ curiosity and passion for history in order for them to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for them to be successful and to become socially responsible citizens of the future.
This will be achieved by:
- Planning an enabling, diverse, representative, and relevant History Curriculum
- Teaching challenging and engaging History lessons
- Planning for progression in First and Second Order Disciplinary Concepts
- Modelling how to speak and write like historians
- Creating a vibrant learning environment in classrooms
- Developing a united, supportive and collaborative History Team
- Completing thorough marking and assessment
- Offering a range of extra-curricular activities and trips in the UK and abroad.
